Sinus Lift

Often, when a tooth is no longer viable, one of the treatments is tooth extraction, which sometimes causes complications.

In the case of upper tooth removal, the sinus cavity may drop, resulting in insufficient space to anchor a dental implant and making dental restoration challenging.

We offer a sinus lift to combat this problem, a standard oral surgical procedure where your doctor will move the sinus back up into its correct position.

Bone tissue is typically added to the upper jaw to provide a sturdy foundation for dental implants. At Elite Dental Group, we are well-versed in this common procedure, as we see many patients who require a sinus lift after tooth extraction.

Sinus lifts are often a necessary course of action for enjoying the lifelong results of dental restoration.

FAQs

What is a sinus lift?

This bone grafting procedure restores lost bone tissue to the upper jaw. It is also known as a sinus graft or a sinus augmentation.

How does a graft work?

When grafting material is applied to the jaw, it fuses and encourages the growth of new bone structures.

How is this surgery completed?

After injecting a local anesthetic, we will make an incision in the gum tissue, exposing the bone. Our surgeon will gently lift the sinus floor to insert the grafting material between it and the jaw bone. We will then stitch together the gum tissue.

How long does integration take?

It will take about 4-9 months for the graft material to harden, bond, and grow. Your jaw will be able to support implants after this time.

Why do I need a sinus lift?

If you have had periodontal disease or tooth extractions, you may have suffered from bone loss in the jaw. A low bone density makes your jaw weaker and unable to support dental implants. A sinus lift may benefit you if you want implants to restore missing teeth and improve your dental health.

What is used for grafting material?

The best type of grafting material comes from your body (autogenous bone) because it has living tissues that aid growth and healing. We can also use bone from cadavers (allogeneic bone) or a cow (xenograft).

What can I expect after the surgery?

You may experience discomfort, swelling, and bleeding after the procedure, but we suggest antibiotics and medication for pain, congestion, and inflammation to help you fight infection and feel comfortable.
